Inspired by early 20th-century labor movements and observed for more than 100 years, International Women's Day (IWD) was celebrated around the world this week with a theme that feels more relevant than ever: #EmbraceEquity.
Pandemic job losses impacted working women disproportionately, with 2.4 million U.S. women leaving the workforce in 2020 as schools shut down and their “second shift” became a round-the-clock reality. Although women’s workforce participation has rebounded to pre-pandemic levels, challenges, including the high cost of childcare remain.
At RGP embracing equity is more than a hashtag—it’s a critical underpinning of our shared values. And it starts at the top. “I am so grateful to be in a company that is incredibly diverse and inclusive,” CEO Kate Duchene said in a tribute to the women of RGP. “I believe we are all the stronger for it.”
That’s why supporting more flexible ways of working is so important. As Kate told Bloomberg Businessweek in a recent interview, the 10% increase in freelance talent over the last three years not only reflects a significant change in how clients want to get work done, but in how talent wants to work — with flexibility, choice and control.
